Membership Criteria

Membership is divided into categories within each professional stream (Modality). All streams are equivalent – so Coaching Psychology is not more important than the Coaching and the Consulting Stream. All are useful, all are important – depending on practitioner orientation, training and purpose for working with clients. What is important from the ABCCCP perspective is that each stream has the best possible practitioners serving the buyers of the services in that stream.

The membership of the ABCCCP means you have undergone scrutiny with regard to your professional status as a consultant, coaching psychologist or coach. It’s not just about paying membership and belonging to a society- it’s a badge of quality that speaks to your skills, knowledge, results as well as ethics since the accreditation process takes all of these into account.

An Affiliate member represents our basic membership category for those who practice in the Coaching Psychology profession yet do not meet all the criteria for full membership nor have interest in /or support the coaching psychology profession or related professions.
It gives you the opportunity to remain connected to your professional body and take advantage of the resources you need to succeed.

To qualify as an affiliate member you need to evidence the following:

  • Bachelor of Psychology (B.Psy) or Equivalent
  • 6 Months Experience as practitioner in the area of Psychology – any category as outlined in the Psychologist’s registering body of residence or practice.
  • With the intentions of using coaching psychology as a modality of intervention

 

Member Commitments after Recognition

  1. At least 30 Continuous Education Units (CEU) a year (on renewal as a member)
  2. A commitment to undertake supervision 3 times a year
  3. Commitment to our Code of Ethics as indicated here (ABCCCP reserves the right to check at least once in the members’ 12 month membership duration

This membership category is for students who are currently studying for Coaching Psychology.
It gives you as a student the opportunity to remain connected to your professional body and take advantage of the resources you need to succeed.

To qualify as a Graduate Member you need to evidence the following

  •  An Honours degree in Psychology (or equivalent)
  •  At least 1 year practice as a coach using coaching psychology as a modality

 

Member Commitments after Recognition

  •  At least 30 Continuous Education Units (CEU) a year (on renewal as a member)
  •  A commitment to undertake supervision 3 times a year
  •  Commitment to our Code of Ethics as indicated here (ABCCCP reserves the right to check at least once in the members 12 months’ membership duration

Chartered Coaching Psychologist is our highest and most prestigious level. It represents pedigree and Prestige.
Achieving this standard tells the world that you have staying power and are a credible practitioner.

Chartered Coaching Psychologist is our highest and most prestigious level and to qualify charter status you need to evidence the following:

  •  A Ph.D Degree in Psychology (or equivalent)
  •  At least 5 years practice as a coach using coaching psychology as a modality
  •  Registration with the statutory bodies as a Professional Psychologist

 

Member Commitments after Recognition

  •  At least 60 Continuous Education Units* (CEU) a year (on renewal as a member)
  •  A commitment to undertake supervision 3 times a year
  •  Commitment to our Code of Ethics as indicated here (ABCCCP reserves the right to check at least once in the members 12 months’ membership duration

A weight of the CEUs will lean 20% towards research and contribution towards the field.

Established Coach (ABCCCP)

The Established Coach is the advanced designation of practice. This is a coach who has proven his/her mettle in the industry and has at least a year in consistent practice. It represents the seriousness of the practitioner to continuously build practice towards Mastery and eventually Chartered status.

To qualify for an Established Coach Designation, you need to evidence and demonstrate the following ABCCCP Coaching Competencies

  • Sees & Connects with the client
  • Consistently achieves results for the client
  • Recognizes and acknowledges emotions of the client
  • Is cognisant of Community /Society/ organisation impact
  • Encourages shared Leadership responsibility
  • Communicates effectively
  • Allows for emergence (Open to outcome instead of chasing outcome)
  • Builds capacity of the client to self-coach
  • Identifies issues effectively
  • Manages Coaching Boundaries
  • Consistently achieves results for the client

Qualifications

  • A 12 month Coaching qualification (NQF5 plus)

Experience

  • At least 320 coaching hours of coaching practice

To qualify for a Master Coach Designation, you need to evidence and demonstrate the following ABCCCP Coaching Competencies

  • Communicates effectively

Qualification

  • An advanced level of knowledge at coaching demonstrating coaching in more than one framework (or equivalent NQF 7 coaching qualification and above)

Experience

  • At least 2000 hours of coach practice as a coach
